Social platforms gave marketers more ways to automate campaigns, develop content and support purchases in October. But the announcements came with different conditions: some tools reached broader audiences, while others remained limited tests or market-specific releases.
Instagram and Facebook Expand Creation, Recommendations and AI Advertising Tools
Meta’s October 6 Advertising Week announcements extended AI advertising tools into more campaign work. Ads Creative Studio began reaching more advertisers, while the Meta AI business assistant gained deeper business context. Conversational campaign creation, budget changes, scheduled tasks and alerts remained in testing. Meta’s announcement also confirmed broader access to Customer Lifecycle Strategy.
Instagram explored changes to both viewing and creation. An October 5 Reels-first interface test offered an option to open directly to Reels rather than the traditional feed. On October 26, Instagram outlined its long-form video Features initiative, adding another format to a platform already accommodating short video, carousels and live broadcasts. These were tests, not universal changes to every account.

Edits added a more immediate publishing capability. Its carousel creation tools, announced October 7 in the United States and covered the following day in Japan, let creators combine photos, video and text across slides. Saved styles and direct Instagram sharing are supported. The announcement specified initial iOS availability, with Android support planned.

Facebook’s October 13 Your algorithm update gave people written-feedback tools to shape Feed and Reels recommendations. Community administrators received separate Forum management features on October 23, including AI-assisted rule checks, shared publishing calendars and tailored insights. Forum remained a U.S.-available app, rather than a confirmed Canadian release.
Threads Tests Smaller Audiences and More Expressive Posts
Threads’ October experiments addressed a different question: how much control should people have over the audience and appearance of a post? Its October 1 visual quote-post test allowed quoted posts to appear as overlays on images or video, making the quoted material part of the composition.
On October 8, Threads introduced Gems recognition for posts that spark meaningful conversations. The feature places attention on discussion quality rather than introducing another publishing format.
Two October 29 tests expanded personalization. Private sharing with up to 50 friends provided a smaller audience for selected posts. Separately, custom Like reactions let participating users personalize the response shown when someone likes their content. Neither announcement should be treated as confirmation of universal availability.
LinkedIn and Pinterest Extend Advertising Access and Discovery
LinkedIn’s October 22 expansion brought its connected TV advertising offering to Google Display & Video 360. Advertisers can apply professional signals, including job title, industry and seniority, to streaming inventory. The DV360 integration supports U.S. targeting, with access arranged through account representatives.

Pinterest followed with Programmatic Deals on October 26. Enterprise advertisers can buy selected display and video inventory through existing programmatic systems. Magnite is the primary supply-side partner, with supported buying platforms including Google Display & Video 360 and Yahoo DSP. Availability covers selected markets across North America, South America and Asia Pacific.

LinkedIn’s October 15 creator and networking announcement included a Network feed test, a globally rolling-out creator dashboard and revenue-sharing In-Stream Ads for selected U.S. participants. Paid Advice Sessions were limited to U.S. Business Premium subscribers. Its October 28 business highlights subsequently reported 25% year-over-year growth in paid video and 63% growth in creator-led ads, alongside higher feed engagement.
Pinterest also connected visual discovery with practical information. Its October 6 Beauty Guides launch used AI to interpret hair and nail Pins and supply salon-request language, related products and instructions. Initial access was for U.S. iOS users. The accompanying Beauty Trend Report covered searches involving maximalist makeup, metallic finishes, layered bobs and chrome nails.
The platform’s commercial argument appeared in a separate October 13 commentary from CMO Claudine Cheever. She positioned consumer intent, rather than time spent alone, as Pinterest’s advertising proposition. That was a research-backed viewpoint, not another product launch.
X Adds AI Campaign Tools as Snapchat Research Examines Trust
X’s October updates put AI into campaign creation and video publishing. On October 6, X Lift introduced AI-powered advertising campaign creation. An October 4 video editor update added improved captions and AI translation, while the October 8 Grok Bot update expanded search and analytics capabilities.
We just shipped an updated version of our native video editor -- cleaner, more intuitive, and much easier to use. As a video creator on 𝕏 myself, I’ve been loving it. We also shipped one of our most requested features: editable captions. You can now: • Edit generated captions manually • Ask Grok to correct them for you • Tell Grok exactly how you want them changed -- including translating them into another language Captions are one of the simplest ways to keep people watching, especially when so many people watch video with the sound off. More improvements to the editor coming soon. Huge thanks to @alxkikalia & @i_aliullov for their work on this!

On October 13, X introduced unified subscription packages combining access across X, Grok and Cursor. Official subscription documentation distinguishes the tiers: paid individual plans include X Premium benefits when an X account is connected; the free tier does not. Existing subscriptions continue, and switching is optional.

Snapchat’s October 22 AI research with Ipsos and WPP examined the consumer side of personalization. Among surveyed consumers, 70% considered the use of personal data in hyper-personalized AI advertising intrusive. The consumer sample included 4,261 monthly AI users aged 18–44 across five markets, excluding Canada.

Local discovery produced a different signal. Snap’s October 15 social maps research surveyed more than 17,000 digital map users across six markets, including Canada. Seventy-one per cent reported being open to visiting a physical location after seeing a sponsored pin. That measures stated willingness, not observed store visits.
For Snapchat advertising, these findings add audience context rather than guaranteed performance benchmarks. Snap’s October 12 holiday marketing guide also focused on advance planning, private sharing and recommendations from friends.

TikTok Connects AI Shopping With Campaign Automation
TikTok’s October 5 announcements connected product questions, checkout and lead qualification. Its AI shopping initiatives include Shopping Assistant, Buy Direct and Lead Agent. They respectively support merchant-backed answers, native checkout with the brand remaining merchant of record, and consent-based lead qualification. The detailed product announcement describes eligibility-based testing opportunities, not unrestricted access.
Distribution expanded separately. TikTok Ad Network, formerly Pangle, became generally available for U.S. targeting, extending campaigns beyond TikTok. The company’s October 5 advertising announcement also covered Smart+ automation and creative optimization. On October 28, its Brand Safety Center announcement added resources covering placement controls, brand protection and responsible AI advertising.
The October 30 Q4 product preview introduced GMV Max Pro, which accounts for costs beyond ad spending, including coupons, affiliate costs and platform commissions. Search Ads gained Impression Share and Top 1 Impression Share metrics. Smart+ Creative Selection combines advertiser assets, creator content and AI-generated material, although the announcement does not provide a universal Canadian rollout schedule.
For marketers, feature access and geographic eligibility determine which announcements can enter a live campaign. Approved creative, accurate product information and reliable conversion measurement remain necessary inputs. Platform-reported engagement, survey responses and attributed sales also need to remain distinct from independently measured business results.
TikTok’s October 14 holiday shopping announcement reported that U.S. LIVE Shopping sales more than doubled year over year in the first half of 2026. Its TikTok Shop Black Friday and Cyber Monday campaign runs from November 11 through November 30.
