Google Gives Omnichannel Teams a Shared View of Social Search

Search Console Social Reporting Goes Global

Google Search Console has spent years showing marketers what happened on their websites. It can now reveal which Google searches lead people to content a brand published somewhere else.

On July 29, Google made Platform Properties globally available, completing the phased rollout that began on July 7. Businesses, publishers and creators can connect Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube accounts to Search Console, then measure how individual posts and videos perform across Google Search, Discover and Google News. Google confirmed the global release alongside a new guide explaining how teams can use the data.

Few reporting changes this quarter have done more to erase the operational line between SEO, social media and video.

Search Console Is No Longer Just a Website Tool

Traditional Search Console properties are tied to domains or URL prefixes controlled by the user. Platform Properties extend that reporting model to content hosted on third-party networks.

A business can now add each Instagram profile, TikTok account, X account or YouTube channel as a separate property. Once ownership is verified, Search Console begins collecting data about how that account’s content appears and performs on Google.

The available reports include clicks, impressions, average click-through rate and average search position. Marketers can filter the data by post, query, country, device and date. Discover and Google News reports appear when the connected content receives traffic from those surfaces. Google says it may take several days for a newly verified property to begin showing data.

That expansion changes the scope of Google Search Console reporting. A social post no longer disappears from the search measurement stack simply because it lives on a platform the brand does not own.

Google is still treating each account as an independent property. A company with two YouTube channels and three Instagram accounts must verify and manage all five separately. Accounts already connected through a claimed Google Search profile may appear automatically.

Search Intent Now Follows Content Off the Website

Native social analytics can show views, watch time, engagement and follower activity. They generally cannot show the Google query someone entered before discovering a particular post.

Platform Properties fill that gap.

The Insights report groups the terms sending Google traffic to social and video content. Teams can see their top query groups, along with topics that are trending up or losing momentum. The Performance report offers a deeper view of individual queries, posts, countries and devices.

For brands, that creates a new source of audience language.

A company may discover that its Instagram Reel attracts Google traffic for a phrase that barely appears in the caption. A YouTube tutorial may rank for a problem the marketing team did not know customers were researching. A TikTok post may surface for a local or product-specific query that has never generated meaningful website traffic.

That data gives social media SEO a more concrete measurement layer. Topic planning, captions, video titles and hashtags can now be informed by the search terms that already bring people to off-site content, rather than relying only on engagement signals from the platform itself.

Google’s 24-hour filter also gives teams a way to catch sudden search activity around recently published material. A spike in impressions or clicks can be identified while the topic is still active, leaving time to cross-promote the post or publish a related version elsewhere.
