Amazon shoppers in the U.S. will now encounter ads for local plumbers, electricians, and other service professionals at the moment they purchase or search for products that may require installation. Amazon Ads unveiled Sponsored Services at unBoxed 2026, describing it as a new ad format that connects shoppers with local service professionals at the exact moment they need help, appearing after shoppers make a purchase or search for something that could require professional installation or follow-on services.
unBoxed 2026 took place September 28–30 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Sponsored Services is available now for Yelp advertisers within eligible home and auto services categories in the U.S.
Where the Ads Appear
Sponsored Services ads appear on product detail pages, order confirmation pages, and package tracking pages across Amazon. For example, if a shopper buys a new kitchen faucet, they may see an ad for a local plumber on their order confirmation page. If a consumer purchases a new bookshelf, they can request a quote from a furniture assembly professional on Yelp within a few clicks.
Once an ad surfaces, shoppers have two response options within the Amazon interface. They can select "Call" to contact the business directly, or "Quote" to submit a request for an estimate. Sponsored Services differs from Amazon's other local advertising products in that its advertisers are small and regional by definition, and the audience is defined by a transaction rather than a place.
The Yelp Partnership
For Sponsored Services, Amazon Ads is working with Yelp, the platform that connects people with local businesses. Through Yelp's millions of local businesses, backed by more than 300 million reviews, shoppers can connect with local, highly rated service professionals, including plumbers, electricians, landscapers, home cleaners, roofers, and movers.
Amazon and Yelp are not new to each other. Amazon announced on December 23, 2025, that Yelp and Angi would be integrated into Alexa+ for home services, alongside Expedia and Square, so that hotel bookings, home services, and wellness appointments could be handled by voice. Sponsored Services marks a separate, distinct integration that operates within the advertising layer of the Amazon shopping experience rather than through Alexa.
What Amazon and Yelp Executives Said
Jenn Donohue, Director of Local Ads at Amazon Ads, stated in the company's announcement that "Sponsored Services connects local businesses with Amazon shoppers at the exact moment they need a service."
Katy Lightsey, Head of Services Operations at Yelp, said: "Yelp has spent over two decades building the most trusted platform to help people find great local businesses. This partnership with Amazon brings Yelp's rich, high-intent platform to shoppers at the point of purchase, creating a powerful new way for the millions of local businesses on Yelp to drive quotes from customers looking for their services. For service pros, this means turning everyday purchases into real jobs."
How Sponsored Services Fits Amazon's Local Advertising Strategy
Sponsored Services is the latest in a series of local and regional ad products Amazon has introduced over the past year. According to Amazon Ads, two recent examples are location-based interactive video ads and Geographic Insights and Activation, known as GIA. The first lets advertisers vary streaming creative by geography, showing regional offers, local pricing, or nearby store information within one campaign, with interactive calls to action such as "Send to Phone" included in the format. Amazon Ads announced the location-based interactive video ad format for Prime Video on October 31, 2025, initially in the United States only, and extended it to Canada, Mexico and Brazil on July 21, 2026.
Geographic Insights and Activation empowers advertisers to uncover regional growth opportunities using Amazon's first-party retail signals, pinpointing high-potential areas and optimizing campaigns to reach new-to-brand customers more effectively. Amazon Ads announced GIA on June 23, 2025, as a feature for Amazon DSP, developed with industry partners including WPP Media and Choreograph.
Implications for Local Service Businesses
For service providers that rely on local lead generation, Sponsored Services introduces a customer acquisition channel driven by confirmed purchase behaviour rather than inferred search intent. Advertisers in eligible home and auto service categories on Yelp can bid to appear at high-intent moments, immediately after a product purchase that implies a service need, without requiring any separate Amazon seller presence. Because the interaction happens within the Amazon experience through either a direct call or a quote request, the format reduces the steps between product purchase and professional contact. No pricing or performance figures were published at the time of the announcement.
Sponsored Services is available now for Yelp advertisers within eligible home and auto services categories in the U.S., with no timeline yet announced by Amazon Ads for expansion into additional service categories or markets.
