Meta Rolls Out AI Analytics Assistant in Edits App for US Instagram Creators

Instagram creators in the United States now have access to a conversational AI assistant built into Meta's Edits video app that analyzes their own account performance data. Meta began the rollout on September 30, 2026, with Brett Westervelt, who leads the Edits app, announcing the launch through a post on the Instagram for Creators blog.

What the Edits Assistant Does

The assistant draws on a creator's Instagram account data, including follows, views, video retention, likes, and shares, and combines that with comments on their posts, trending content on Instagram, and information about what their audience is interested in. It identifies patterns in that data over time, explaining why certain Reels perform better than others, and from there suggests video concepts, hooks, captions, and trending audio aligned with a specific creator's style.

Example prompts described in the announcement include asking what connected most with an audience over a given month, why one Reel held attention while another did not, what is currently trending on the platform, and what to make next.

Westervelt was explicit about the boundaries of what the tool is intended to do. "One thing we heard consistently: creators want a tool that handles the analysis, not one that does the creative work for them," he wrote. "Edits assistant does the digging for you. The creative calls are still yours."

How It Was Developed

Meta says the Edits assistant was built over several months with a council of creators who tested early versions of the product. According to Meta, creators who tested the assistant used its suggestions to learn which types of content their audiences responded to and to try changes such as varying the length of their videos.

Availability and Pricing

Westervelt's announcement describes a rollout to all Edits users in the US, on both iOS and Android. The assistant is free to use within the app up to a daily prompt limit, and Meta said users will soon be able to unlock additional usage through a Meta One subscription. Meta One is the subscription service the company announced on September 15, 2026. The subscription tiers are priced at up to $499 per month. No date has been confirmed for expansion beyond the United States.

Context: A Preview in June and a Desktop App in Development

Meta first previewed the assistant in June at an invite-only creator event, where the company also confirmed it was building a desktop version of Edits. The Edits app itself launched globally on April 22, 2025, at a time when TikTok and its sister editing app CapCut faced a possible US ban.

Comparison to YouTube's Approach

YouTube unveiled its own conversational video editing tool at its Made on YouTube event on September 23, 2026. YouTube said the tool will be available for YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create app in early 2027. YouTube's conversational editing tool allows creators to give instructions through a chat interface to refine both long- and short-form videos, a workflow aimed at the mechanical editing process itself. Meta's Edits assistant, by contrast, is positioned as a performance analytics tool that interprets account data rather than touching footage directly.

Practical Implications for Marketers and Content Creators

Creators and social media managers who manage Instagram accounts through Edits will now have account-level performance data surfaced through a chat interface, removing the need to manually cross-reference metrics in Instagram Insights. Brands running creator programs may find the tool relevant for evaluating content strategy based on retention and engagement patterns specific to each creator's audience, rather than relying on platform-wide benchmarks. Usage at scale will depend on subscription tier, as free access carries a daily prompt cap.
