Yelp Adds Restaurant Reservations and Waitlists to ChatGPT, Expanding AI Booking Capabilities

ChatGPT users in the United States and Canada can now book restaurant tables and join waitlists without leaving the chat interface. Yelp announced on August 10, 2026, via its official company blog, that it has integrated Yelp Reservations and Waitlist directly into ChatGPT, expanding a content partnership with OpenAI that was established roughly three weeks prior.

What the Integration Does

ChatGPT users can access Yelp Reservations and Waitlist to book a table or join the waitlist at thousands of restaurants across the U.S. and Canada without leaving the chat. Once booked, users can make changes to their reservations directly through Yelp.

Yelp ChatGPT Integration

The new booking capability builds on an existing content integration that provides ChatGPT users with local recommendations by surfacing Yelp's reviews, ratings, photos, and business details directly within the chat experience. That original content partnership launched roughly three weeks before the reservation and waitlist capability went live, as confirmed by Yelp exclusively to Axios.

Yelp is not the only reservation platform now integrated into ChatGPT. OpenAI has also partnered with OpenTable and Resy for the same purpose, with users able to find and book a table through any of the three services directly within a conversation.

Who Is Affected and How Access Works

Yelp's announcement ties the integration specifically to restaurants using Yelp Guest Manager, its front-of-house reservations and waitlist platform. The August 10 blog post, authored by Chad Richard, Yelp's SVP of Business and Corporate Development, states that "for restaurants using Yelp Guest Manager this integration expands their access to the largest restaurant consumer network."

The integration is tied to Yelp Guest Manager adoption, and there is no content or markup change that places a restaurant into the booking flow; it is a product-adoption decision, the transactional equivalent of licensed data.

Chad Richard said the goal of the integration is closing the gap between discovery and action. Yelp's own Morning Consult research found that nearly two-thirds of respondents, 65%, say being able to take action, such as making a reservation, on trusted platforms is important when using AI tools for local discovery.

Yelp's Broader AI Distribution Strategy

The ChatGPT booking integration is one part of a wider push by Yelp to supply its data and transactional tools to AI-powered platforms rather than rely exclusively on direct traffic to its own app and website.

Platforms including ChatGPT, Apple Maps, Amazon's Alexa+, Microsoft Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo!, and leading automotive brands are now delivering Yelp-powered recommendations and helping users make reservations, join waitlists, and request quotes from service providers.

Yelp's branding and links appear when OpenAI uses its content, though OpenAI controls the design of that experience, according to Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman, who spoke to Axios. A "Request a Quote" feature is also expected to be added, allowing ChatGPT users to contact local service providers directly through the platform. The companies declined to disclose financial terms of the deal, which does not preclude Yelp from making similar agreements with other AI companies.

Yelp's August 10 blog post cited research showing that while 65% of Americans have used AI search, only 15% trust it "a lot," and 72% say AI platforms should always show where information comes from.

Implications for Restaurants and Local Marketers

For restaurants not currently using Yelp Guest Manager, the integration represents a closed system: eligibility to appear in ChatGPT's booking flow is determined by software adoption, not by search optimization or content strategy. Businesses that rely on AI-generated discovery for dining traffic may need to evaluate their reservation platform choices alongside their broader local SEO posture, given that multiple booking providers, Yelp, OpenTable, and Resy, are now transactionally embedded in the same AI interface.

Yelp's August 10 blog post confirmed the integration is live as of the announcement date, with the booking and waitlist features available for thousands of restaurant locations across the U.S. and Canada.
