Google is adding direct Google Business Profile management to the Gemini app, along with a new Business notebooks feature, changes that shift local business administration out of the profile dashboard and into a conversational AI interface. Google confirmed the updates in a June 10 blog post published alongside its Google for Brazil event, describing them as extensions of the AI capabilities announced in May.
Both features will begin rolling out globally this month, with the exception of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. The rollout is gradual, and the integration may not appear immediately for all eligible users.
Google Business Profile Connection
In the coming weeks, business owners will be able to securely connect their Google Business Profile to Gemini with a single tap. Once connected, Gemini gains access to customer reviews, customer questions, and performance data associated with that profile.
Vishnu Sivaji, senior director for the Gemini app, stated in the June 10 post that:
"Once connected, Gemini becomes an AI assistant that actually knows your business, having access to your real-world context like customer reviews, customer questions and performance data."
Google outlined three functions the connection enables: querying monthly performance, including search impressions, direction requests, call data, and customer engagement; drafting tailored review responses in the business's brand voice; and making direct profile edits such as updating operating hours or posting seasonal announcements.
Business Notebooks
Business notebooks function as a dedicated workspace where owners can organize chats, sources, their Google Business Profile, and their website, with Gemini able to reference that material, so context carries across sessions.
Notebooks proactively surface key insights and recommended actions upon opening, including alerts for unanswered customer questions or unset holiday hours, as well as tailored suggestions for pricing or positioning based on local market conditions.
Owners can also develop creative concepts for promotional campaigns and analyze performance metrics from within the notebook.
Prior Use of Gemini in Business Profile Enforcement
This announcement extends Gemini's role within Google Business Profile beyond enforcement. Google had previously deployed Gemini to detect suspicious profile edits and fake reviews; the June 10 announcement brings Gemini into the product management side of the platform for the first time.
Geographic Scope and Rollout Timeline
The Google Business Profile integration and Business notebooks will begin rolling out to the Gemini app globally this month. The Business Profile connection will be specifically followed in the coming weeks, and no availability plans for the EEA or UK were included in the announcement.
Implications for Local Business Owners and Marketers
For local businesses and digital marketers managing Google Business Profiles, the integration moves common tasks, review responses, profile updates, and performance reporting into a single chat-based interface. AI-generated review responses carry the same public weight as manually written ones once published, which means any draft Gemini produces requires review before it goes live. The persistence of context within Business notebooks also reduces the need to re-supply business information across separate sessions, which can affect workflow efficiency for agencies managing multiple profiles.
Google noted in the June 10 announcement that special Workspace and Gemini offers tied to these features are forthcoming, though specific pricing or eligibility details were not disclosed in the initial post.
