NotebookLM Rolls Out Inside the Google Gemini Mobile App

Google has begun integrating NotebookLM directly into the Gemini mobile app, marking a step toward tighter convergence between its AI research and conversational tools.

Until now, NotebookLM and Gemini largely operated in parallel. While early signs of integration surfaced last year, official support was initially limited to the web version of Gemini. That restriction is now easing as mobile users start to see NotebookLM appear natively within the Gemini app.

NotebookLM added to the Gemini app interface

On Android, NotebookLM is now accessible from the Gemini app’s “+” menu, where users attach inputs such as images, files, or Drive content. Selecting NotebookLM opens an “Add notebook” view that displays existing notebooks and allows them to be brought directly into a Gemini conversation.

To accommodate the new option, Google has reworked the layout of the attachment menu. The previous horizontal arrangement of pill-shaped shortcuts has been replaced with a vertical list, placing NotebookLM alongside other input sources.

The change appears tied to recent versions of the Google app and is beginning to surface on supported Android devices, though availability is still limited.

Difference from existing shortcuts

Before this update, Gemini app users could access NotebookLM through an account switcher shortcut that launched the web interface. The new integration differs by embedding NotebookLM more deeply into the chat experience, allowing notebooks to be referenced and used directly within Gemini sessions.

This workflow reduces friction for users who rely on NotebookLM for research, summaries, and structured notes, especially on mobile devices.

Gradual rollout expected

While the feature is live for some Android users, it has not yet reached broad availability. Based on Google’s recent rollout patterns, wider distribution across Android—and eventually iOS—appears likely over the coming weeks.

The integration mirrors functionality already available on the mobile web version of Gemini, but brings it into a more native app experience for frequent users of both tools.

NotebookLM continues to expand

The Gemini app integration follows a series of recent NotebookLM updates. The tool has added export options for sending notes and reports to document and spreadsheet formats, and additional presentation-style audio summaries are reportedly in development.

As Google continues aligning Gemini and NotebookLM, the mobile app integration signals a broader effort to make research, synthesis, and conversation part of a single, continuous workflow rather than separate products.

For users who rely on NotebookLM as a research companion, native access inside Gemini represents a meaningful step toward that goal.
