Four Ways To Increase Conversions On Your Business Website

As a small business owner, you’re probably aware of the three things you need to do in order for your website to earn money.

  1. A compelling offer, which is your product or service.
  2. Targeted traffic to your website. You’re already constantly working on that.
  3. Converting that traffic into paying customers.

This article will concentrate on number 3 above; how to best optimize your website so the visitors you are now receiving will buy from you more often.

Make it so it’s easy for your customers to buy from you

  • Tell your visitors exactly what they need to do next with clear instructions and directions that lead them directly to the check-out link.
  • Make sure that link to the checkout process stands out in a way so there is absolutely no mistake of what their next action should be.
  • Ask your customer to fill out the minimum amount of fields in your check-out form. They’re here to buy, not fill out a questionnaire.

Set up A/B split testing on your product or “money” pages

  • Experiment with different headlines. The headline you’re sure is the most effective might very well be the least. Let your customers tell you which headline converts the best with their buying actions.
  • Try different page layouts. A clean and simple layout with a clear navigation structure might convert better for you. Test it to find out for sure.
  • Test your offer. How is it described? How much does it cost? How is it presented? Tweaking your offer in subtle ways can make a big difference in how well it converts.
  • Split test different sizes, colors and the wording of your order buttons. Yes, even a different looking order button can significantly affect your conversion rates.
  • Try using a video instead of just plain text to convey your offer. Your customers may very well respond better to visual media rather than by just reading it.
  • Make sure to only change one thing at a time on each page. That’s the only way to know for sure what’s working better. Once you have an accurate benchmark of how a particular page is converting; try to beat it with another test page.

Don’t underestimate the power of email to boost conversion rates

  • Have an email optin form “above the fold” on each page of your website. Give away something of value in exchange for your visitor’s email address.
  • Many people won’t buy from you on their first visit to your site because they need to have that trust factor in place before parting with their money. You can build that trust by providing valuable content to subscribers through regular email contact.
  • Having a responsive email list that you have established a relationship with gives you the opportunity to sell to your subscribers over and over again.

Offer a “take action now” incentive to buy

  • Offer your customer a time sensitive bonus to take immediate action now. People don’t like to miss out on things. Employing the “scarcity” factor with your offer can be extremely effective.
  • There is a limited quantity of the item at this price. This is not some sort of sleazy marketing tactic. You really do have only three items left that you were able to buy at a discounted price. Again, this is the scarcity factor at work here.
  • Don’t fake these incentives to buy. The trust of your customer is at stake and they are usually sophisticated enough to see through any mis-representations.
