Thanks for the comment, rereading Step 5 I see the reason for the confusion. Let me clarify...

Untagged PPC campaign sources other than Adwords, (e.g. Yahoo! MSN paid) will show as organic traffic. This is what I was referring to, though I didn&#039;t explicitly state.

For Adwords campaigns, prior to March 09 untagged PPC traffic would have shown up as Google/Organic. After this date it shows as Direct.

Great post, thanks for the tips.  One question though - something that is probably quite obvious but I&#039;ve struggled to find a definitive answer - if a display ad campaign is driving traffic to a site but it hasn&#039;t been tagged with GA campaign info, will this traffic show up in GA as referral traffic or as direct traffic?
