Good article C-note. SEO is an all time hot topic and yours is the one of the better ones that I came across in several months. You have hit the head of the nail rather then beating around the bush. Thanks for the post.

A Price Waterhouse Coopers bi annual report suggests that internet advertising revenues were up 18.2 % YOY, $5.8 Billion for Q1 08. Their report also suggested that Internet advertising revenues topped $21 billion in 2007. Advertisers will only put their money in to companies that have high rankings, visibility and that which guarantees their ROI. If companies intend to grab a piece of this pie, then SEO is the one and the only option. SEO companies are in for good times. (if they do things right!)

SEO is an iceberg, only the tip we're seeing. Digging deep into it gives some knowledge that you can learn more about each day. Every site wants to be at the top in leading search engines by hook or crook SEO steps. But following the optimization strict standards enforced by major search engines across the world lets you position organically there.

It's interesting that you mention the use of traditional forms of advertising being more expensive, and yet, it seems as though they are becoming more and more obsolete. With the onset of new entertainment technology, such as TIVO and iPODs the more traditional forms of advertising are infiltrating less of the targeted market. Mind you, I am in no way expert on the matter, but from my perspective as a consumer, Search Engine Optimization seems as though it may be the way to go.

Before I became aware of the wonderful world of internet marketing, I didn't even know that one could alter the rank listing on Google, Yahoo and other search engines, let alone that it was a method of advertising. This is a powerful medium because, I would think, that many consumers don't even recognize that that are 'marketed' to. Not only that but SEO allows one to go about their daily tasks without the inconvenience of advertising getting in the way, which is the case when watching television shows and listening to the radio.

The advertising and marketing industry has had to evolve with changing technology and I believe that search engine optimization is a prime example of how to revolutionize ones marketing strategy to conform to the new media demand.

Your final points about the intrusiveness of normal advertising are very good Colin. No other medium offers advertisers the ability to deliver focussed ads that are directly related to what the visitor is actually looking for. The Yellow pages are no longer effective; Instead people are using search engines to search for the item they are looking for.

Getting better visibility in mainstream search engines is not a simple task, and only via natural SEO can we get there affordably. Many website owners still have not realized the potential of SEO. Having a website only is not going to do a lot of good to your business. Caring about the SEO of your site contributes nicely. Nice post

Internet marketing experts agree that people who are interested in doing business on the Internet should take time to learn about what it is they are getting into. In SEO the important part is how much you do things to get it worked out properly, and many people are wrongly believing the notion that 'SEO is one day or one week wonder'. Organic SEO takes time to bring results. Well before you take the leap you can take a look here. Nice article.

I feel that SEO basics keep changing constantly. They are intricately tied to search engine algorithms. SEO success depends on the ability to, move in with the limited knowledge of search engine algorithms and incorporate new trends. More then anything it is important to ensure optimization stays "White Hat".
