Using Twitter To Make Phone Calls

twitter

Now you can make voice calls directly from Twitter. Jajah a third party service will be launching this feature today September 17′ 2009. It is still in the beta stages but is expected to get quite popular.

Twitter users can perform a two-way voice chat by typing @call @twitterID.

What’s the catch ?

You and your friend have to be Jajah users and the second user has to follow the first using Twitter.

One of the good features is that your phone number will be kept private even though you can call anyone following you on Twitter and using this service. Recently Vivox launched a similar service for Facebook users.

Looking at both these applications it is evident that service providers are looking at ways to tap into the potential of social networks and social media.

Not a nice move from Twitter, since we have ample similar options to choose. When it comes to microblogging, Twitter is King of the hill. And no doubt it is the greatest viral marketing engine on the planet. Twitter is adored for its easy communication format and the way in which it renders online. But this new development may just pull users away from Twitter. We shall see!

I justed watched the video demo of how this works on Jajahs website. Very cool! I wonder if they’ll add this to Facebook as well…
