And we’re not talking Chandler Bing, either.
Over the past few months, there has been chatter across the internet about Microsoft’s relaunch of their search engine, MSN Live Search. In beta, the new platform was referred to as Kumo. But this morning, MSN introduced it’s new search engine called Bing.
MSN is promoting Bing as a "decision engine" that will understand the intent of a search and produce not only relevant results by topic, but organize these results by subcategory, be it shopping, video, web pages, or reviews. Only time will tell if this will actually work as promised and gain valuable market share. Remember the last big launch of a new and better search engine? Yeah, so do we, unfortunately.
The plan is to have the new search engine go live in the USA first, followed by beta launches elsewhere around the world. The new search engine should be fully live by June 3.
On the Pay-Per-Click side, I wonder what affect will this have on paid search ads and the traffic it drives to sites if MSN is moving away from the portal idea of previous MSN pages to the straightforward search engine feel similar to Google? The potential for both Internet Marketers and advertisers could be incredible. My own feeling is that based on market share improvements made by MSN of late, they will operate Bing as its own entity and will continue the current MSN and Live search platforms.

This ‘decision engine’ seems very smart to me. Who knows if it will take off but I plan on researching this quite a bit over the next week to see how it can impact the internet marketing world. Thanks for the post Matt!
It seems Microsoft has come out with something unique and quite different from what others are offering. It is labeled a “decision engine” that will also understand the intent of the search and produce results accordingly. But how successful they will be in creating a dent in Google search market share remains to be seen.
That is the end of all speculations and rumours on its name.
Let it be ‘Decision engine’ or ‘factual engine’(Wolfram Alpha)-what searchers are looking for is a real tool which would furnish what they’re looking for, without consuming their valuable time.
Hope this time Microsoft never fail in framing their much hyped ‘Bing’ to an destined reality.
Microsoft’s new Bing search engine is now live, two days early than expected. The initials reports indicates a positive reaction, Bing is ok. Is it that much good, I don’t think. We can see Live’s big index in bing also, no improvements seems to have been done in that respect, which is much awaited by the search world. Bing will push back Yahoo to the corners, but Google be still the heavy weight.
It’s good to see the auto suggest keywords coming up and the page description with important links shown on the right navigation when mouse over the search results link. Good bing features.

I don’t think that Bing will be successful until Microsoft sort out their indexing issues.
For example, sites that have almost all their pages indexed in Google have barely 20% indexed in Bing.
Therefore Bing is not seeing most of the web.
I wish Microsoft would sort this out – they have millions at their disposal and the brightest people working for them.
