Many of us at TechWyse wanted to officially pay our respects after hearing about the loss of Canadian media giant Ted Rogers.
While he was not directly involved in the internet marketing industry in Toronto, his leadership in the media industry and his rise from a small radio station in Brampton to the biggest media company in Canada is truly motivational. His quiet, yet strong ownership of the Toronto Blue Jays re-established the team as a solid sports franchise that could compete and more importantly placed his leadership acumen on a world stage.
Ted Rogers taught CEO’s in Canada how to be CEO’s and was a mentor to many aspiring business owners.
With his dream of bringing the NFL just 5 days away his death somehow seems unfair. He has passed away at the age of 75.

I didn’t know Ted Rogers but I do know that he had an obvious love for sports, entertainment and family. Three things I know we all enjoy and respect. He was a great part of Canada’s history and will be deeply missed.

It’s truly the end of an era with the passing away of Ted Rogers. As you said, he was an entrepreneur par excellence and the role model for a generation of younger businessmen. His words were always paid heed to and his actions were always looked upon with respect. He will continue to be a beacon although in the memories.
I worked for Ted in what most would call Middle Management for 9 years. I shook his hand once. And watch him stand so close to BBQ at a company get together, that I would swear his synthetic suit was melting. Until his final days he took a brown paper bag lunch everyday. He never bought new clothing – and you could still catch him wearing the John Stockton high cut Adidas shorts every now and then. (True Story)
He was a true capitalist and a true Canadian. Think about how much Bell would be charging for your cellular minutes if there wasn’t a better solution? Same thing with Cable and Internet. He saved Maclean Hunter from bankruptcy and kept alive Chatelaine, Macleans and many other mags that would have been discontinued if he hadn’t agreed to fund their existence. A lot of this is considered Canadiana – He gave alot more than he took.

Yes, the beloved Ted Rogers was a true icon in the business fraternity. A hard taskmaster, he was always the one who work the hardest and dreamed the biggest. No wonder he authored success in almost everything he ventured into. Really Edward S. Rogers, Sr. is a tough act to follow. May he inspire many more to dream big.

Bon Voyage Ted Rogers, one of the Canada’s greatest telecommunications entrepreneurs. He was a daring businessman. Thank you DJ for an insightful tribute to a great Canadian. Never we will forget him, he will always be remembered for his yeoman services and his philanthropy.
